There are some songs that move me.
Spiritually, not physically.
Though, let’s be honest–there are those songs, too. Cupid shuffle, anyone? Generally, these songs are reserved for weddings or silly youth ministry videos. 🙂
No, I mean those songs that put words to your emotions. The ones where you find yourself lingering in your car long after you’ve parked in the garage because you just have to hear the whole thing. The ones you sing at the top of your lungs despite the looks from others at the red light. (Amen?)
These are the “repeat” songs. You listen over and over and over, much to the frustration of any potential road-trip passengers.
Sovereign Over Us, by Aaron Keyes, is one such song. Haven’t heard it? Click here.
The whole song is good, but these lines speak the most to me in our current season. I just want to share them with you in case you need some encouragement from Mr. Keyes today.
There is strength within the sorrow,
There is beauty in our tears
You meet us in our mourning,
With a love that casts out fear
You are working in our waiting,
When beyond our understanding,
You’re teaching us to trust
Your plans are still to prosper,
You have not forgotten us
You’re with us in the fire and the flood
Perfect in love
You are sovereign over us
Working in our waiting. His plans are still to prosper.
Preach it, Aaron.
